To recognize Epsilon Sigma Phi members for outstanding professional achievements, ESP members can nominate a deserving member, colleague, or themselves in one of several categories.

2017 ESP Chapter Awards - Application Instructions

  1. To print information on how to apply for 2017 awards and scholarships, please download this Word document.
  2. All Alpha Delta ESP awards must be submitted by April 1, 2017. Most are submitted through the National ESP website. Nominees who do not submit an online nomination form will not be considered for recognition.
    1. Choose an award, and an explanation of that award will be shown.
    2. Next, follow the link that will take you to the application form.
    3. You MUST include Chapter contact information in boxes on the application as follows: Chapter Recognition Contact: Member Services Chair Current
  3. Complete the application and make sure you hit “Submit
    1. The information is stored in a database on the national website.
    2. Copies are automatically emailed to you and the State Awards Chair.
    3. It is a good idea to print a copy of your submitted application to the National website and email it to our state awards chair!
  4. The Chapter awards committee will make the selection of the winners.
  5. Our Chapter submits applications for certain awards recognized at the state level (during EPAF) for National recognition the following spring, with national winners being recognized at the fall National ESP Conference. Recognition marked with an (*) has corresponding opportunities for recognition at the National level.

Award Categories

Friend of Extension*

This is the highest award presented by an Epsilon Sigma Phi chapter to a non-Extension (lay) person, and is designed to recognize truly outstanding support and personal involvement in Extension efforts.

Distinguished Service Award*

This state/regional award is designed to pay the highest chapter tribute to an experienced Extension professional who has consistently exhibited continuing leadership and excellence in Extension, program planning, and delivery, and evaluation in program areas and/or administration over a career of 20 or more years. Data supporting measurable impacts of the candidate's work in meeting need of clientele will strengthen the nomination.

Mid-Career*

This award is designed to pay tribute to an experienced Extension professional (with 10-20 years of service) who has exhibited continuing leadership and excellence in state Extension program planning, delivery, and evaluation, in program areas and/or administration.

Early Career*

This award is designed to recognize the achievements of rising young professionals who have shown noteworthy enthusiasm, performance, and accomplishment during their early Extension careers (less than 10 years) in program design and delivery.

Continued Excellence Recognition*

This gives recognition to an experienced Extension professional with twenty-plus years of experience who has exhibited continued leadership, initiative, and excellence in Extension program planning, delivery, evaluation in program or administration, on a state, regional and/or national level five years after receiving the state DSA award. Data supporting measurable impacts of the candidate’s work in meeting the needs of clientele will strengthen the nomination.

Visionary Leadership Recognition*

This state award is designed to recognize Extension professionals whose significant accomplishments have resulted in leading Extension forward in new directions. This person's visionary leadership enabled Extension to anticipate a significant new opportunity and developed support to implement program organizational changes necessary to achieve success. Administrative Leadership Recognition*

This gives recognition to an Extension professional who has shown noteworthy administrative enthusiasm, performance, and accomplishment during their Extension Careers (10 years or more). Administrative leadership may be at county, regional, Chapter, program, department, or national level. Documentation of the candidate’s work in meeting the needs and furthering the efforts of supervised faculty, staff and/or program should be primary in this recognition.

Team Recognition*

This state/chapter award is designed to recognize outstanding efforts on the part of a team of Extension staff in responding to and incorporating into a specific educational program one or more of the National Initiatives identified by the Cooperative Extension System. This application outline varies slightly. Please follow guidelines on National ESP website.

International Service Recognition*

This nationally sponsored award is available to an Epsilon Sigma Phi member who has contributed significantly to the development and/or expansion of an Extension program in another country or countries through in-state and/or overseas work. This might include references to teaching/training foreign students in the U.S. about Extension; providing assistance in a cooperating host country; implementing new ideas and/or research in a host country; assisting with programs in a host country; and showing demonstrated competence in program leadership in education.

Diversity/Multicultural Recognition*

The purpose of the diversity recognition is to recognize outstanding efforts and accomplishments in developing, achieving and sustaining diversity in Extension programs and/or audiences. Diversity is defined as acknowledging, understanding, valuing and celebrating differences among people relative to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, gender, age, marital status, disability, public assistance status, veteran status or sexual orientation. (List is not all-inclusive and not limited to those mentioned.) A separate application is available for the diversity award that outlines the requirements.

Outstanding Specialist Award

This award acknowledges the outstanding contributions of state Extension Specialists throughout the state that have given exceptional time and resources to support Extension Service educational programs for members within ESP. Apply here

Meritorious Support Service Recognition

This chapter award is nationally authorized and designed to pay tribute to the staff in our system that, over time, have shown support for the mission and program of the Cooperative Extension Service. Such persons include staff members, program assistants, secretaries, etc. Apply here

25 Year Tenure Recognition

Offered by the Chapter in recognition for 25 years of Extension service, the 25 year milestone has been almost universally spotlighted, and has been sanctioned by the National Board as one worthy of certificate recognition. Apply here

Chapter and National Scholarships & Grants

Chapter Scholarship Application for Professional Improvement

To financially assist Agents in pursuing a project, class, event, courses or conference that will benefit the applicant’s Extension programming. The scholarship funds in the amount of $400 will be dispersed at the completion of the class, conference, etc. If awarded a scholarship, you will be responsible for submitting a “Scholarship Report Form” with proof of expenditures. This form will be sent to scholarship winners. To be eligible for ESP – Alpha Delta Chapter ESP scholarships, you must be an active ESP member and must have contributed to the ESP High Five Campaign. JCEP Leadership Chapter Scholarship Application for Professional Development
